God owns everything, and He’s incredibly generous.

He does this unique, amazing thing, though - He entrusts things to us to manage so we can take part in the joy of being generous like He is.

Proverbs 11:25 reveals, “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

Money, like anything we manage, is His. It’s not a scorecard for success, nor does it make us any more spiritual for having or not having it.  It is simply one more area of life that we surrender to God in faith and see Him use it to reach others through it.

So consider starting with the examples we see in the Bible to help you step toward this. Many people in the Old Testament started with a “tithe” (the first 10% of what God gave them to manage).

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” (Malachi 3:10)

Later, the New Testament believers pushed past this and became generous above and beyond this. This is the kind of love for others that the world can’t help but notice when we mature into it.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. (Acts 2:44-45)
